SAK Environmental Helps Manufacturer Get Back to Business After Near Disaster

Jun 23, 2016

Success, unchecked, can also bring failure.

The rapid business growth for a New England manufacturer of industrial coatings had a runaway chemical reaction that could have destroyed the plant and been an environmental disaster.

A poorly trained employee and weak chemical inventory controls caused the event which required emergency HazMat teams from state and local officials, and attention from news media.  Inspections by local and state environmental officials, USEPA and OSHA followed.  The plant was forced to suspend production.

Helping ManufacturerSAK rapidly deployed a team of safety, cleanup, and compliance specialists to help the plant get safe and compliant. Obvious risks were addressed first by ensuring there was no adverse impact to the environment, and by helping the client improve hazardous materials management and reduce unneeded chemical inventory.  Safety improvements to the facility were also made. A multimedia compliance audit was performed and necessary hazardous material processing and environmental operating permits secured.SAK's effort helped significantly reduce and in some cases eliminate regulatory penalties."We never like these things happening to our clients, but we are prepared to deal with them and to respond quickly when they occur" says Stephen Sakakeeny, Principal at SAK.
